Los Angeles, CA, January 22, 2010 – Digital studio Radium/Reel FX, Santa Monica/Dallas, is honored by the Visual Effects Society with a nod for an 8th Annual VES Awards.  In-cinema featurette, “Magic Chairs,” for AMC Theaters out of Fitzgerald & Co, Atlanta, Georgia, is nominated for Outstanding Created Environment in Broadcast Program or Commercial.  The 45-second featurette, which precedes all AMC feature presentations, showcases a vivid CG garden sprouting from a velvety theater interior.  CG Supervisor Dariush Derakhshani, CG Artist Steve Cummings, Technical Director Harry Michalakeas and VFX Supervisor Rob Nederhorst were the nominees for the Radium/Reel FX team, which was comprised of both entertainment and commercial artists, who worked across both studios to complete the job.

The featurette is available for screening at http://www.radium.com/

Also of note, Reel FX Animation Supervisor Steve Nichols received a V.E.S. nomination in the category of “Outstanding Animated Character in a Live Action Motion Picture” for his work on District 9, prior to joining Reel FX.

The winners of 8th Annual VES Awards will be announced at the event on February 28, in Los Angeles at the Hyatt Regency Century Plaza Hotel.
