WHEN IT’S THE END OF THE WORLD AND YOUR MOM CALLS, HAVE A KIT KAT

Rodrigo Saavedra directs fun spot for JWT Sao Paulo

Kit Kat’s latest “have a break” TV spot from Brazil is delightfully silly.

JWT Sao Paulo’s ad imagines an end-of the-world scenario in which the world’s top military, in a high-tech Pentagon-like war room in the middle of the sea, are watching alien ships about to destroy the world’s major cities. The very serious General needs to make a decision, but then the large red phone on his desk rings. Is it the aliens making contact? No, it’s his mom. This stressful and humiliating moment is only alleviated by someone passing him a Kit Kat, which he proceeds to eat in relaxed fashion as the world ends around him.

Directed by Landia’s Rodrigo Saavedra with the high-gloss look and feel of a futuristic Hollywood movie, this is good old-fashioned advertising comedy, which just goes to show that sometimes all we need is to “have a break” from all the clever stuff.
