Acclaimed directing talent is nothing new at Park Pictures, but today’s Oscar nominations bring fresh accolades to several directors on their roster. Oscar-winner Emmanuel “Chivo” Lubezki is nominated for his third Oscar for his visionary cinematography on The Revenant. According to several recent interviews, the film was shot almost exclusively using natural light. The filmmaker had previously won film’s top honors for Gravity and Birdman, as well as an additional Oscar nomination for Tree of Life.

Chivo’s signing to Park in 2013 marked the renowned filmmaker’s first-ever commercial representation; a perfect match given Park’s track record of successfully transitioning feature DPs into spots.

Director Tom McCarthy receives the Director Oscar nomination for Spotlight, the riveting cinematic story of the tenacious Boston Globe reporters who won the Pulitzer Prize for their investigation of the Catholic Church’s child molestation scandal. McCarthy, who joined Park Pictures in 2012, is an actor-turned-director previously nominated for co-writing the screenplay for Disney’s “Up.” Further industry awards and accolades have been won by his features The Visitor, Win Win and The Station Agent, as well as films he has performed in including Syriana, Flags of our Fathers, All the King’s Men and The Lovely Bones.

Park Pictures’ feature division, headed by Producer Sam Bisbee, Jacqueline Kelman Bisbee and Lance Acord, has produced five features, all of which were selected for the Sundance Film Festival. The five films are The New Tenants, a 2009 live action short which went on to win an Oscar; Robot & Frank (2012); Infinitely Polar Bear (2014); God’s Pocket (2014) and Other People (2016).
