Los Angeles-based Boxer Films has signed Italian director Igor Borghi for U.S. commercial representation.  A natural storyteller who is also a working screenwriter in Italy, Borghi has infused spots with stylish authenticity for Yamaha, La Cucina Italiana, UBI Bank and more.  In less than two years and after winning Best European Branded Short Film at the ’10 Young Directors Awards for La Cucina Italiana, he has become one of the most sought-after filmmakers in Italy.

Says Boxer EP Beth George, “We were immediately drawn to Igor’s passion for visual storytelling that emanates from all of his work.  He seeks out projects that he can connect with and reach people on a deeper level.  We are thrilled to have him on board!”

Borghi grew up in Bologne, Italy where he started filmmaking as a teenager. After a stint at the Italian National Film School in Rome, he went on to A.D. for some of the country’s biggest feature film directors, including Marco Tullio Giordana, while also writing and making short films of his own (in Italy, the A.D. position is much more of a directing apprenticeship than it is Stateside). Borghi’s first attempt at spot-making came when a friend asked him to direct a commercial for a wedding planning company. The spot was so well received that he was immediately contacted by production companies throughout Europe.

Influenced by luminaries in both the commercial and feature film worlds, Borghi strives to make films and spots that affect people on a visceral level. “I always try to find something real, something truthful in a script or boards. Bringing that to fruition and infusing unexpected emotion into projects is always my goal.” Borghi has a unique global view born of years traveling the globe as an A.D. and filmmaker; he is fluent in English, Spanish and French. Continues the director, “Film has taken me everywhere. Finding creative, visual ways to mix cultures and genres excites me. I love taking people to new places, whether it be in a commercial, web film or feature.”

Borghi has more Yamaha spots scheduled to release later this fall and is currently developing several feature projects. Borghi is currently repped by Mercurio Film, Milan for the Italian market; Brownie, Madrid for Spain; Magali, Paris for France; and Cream, Munich for Germany.
