Los Angeles-based Recommended Media director Chris Woods plays next gen technology cupid as man and machine meet cute in the new :30 “Pilot” for Ooma out of DraftFCB, San Francisco, CA.

The spot is one of a series to be rolled out in coming months charting the evolving relationship between a man and his ever-helpful Ooma free calling home phone machine. It opens on a man connecting his brand new Ooma device with ease when he’s startled by a woman’s peppy voice coming from it. Ooma and the man, Gary, exchange introductions and excitedly discuss plans to make some free calls together, only to awkwardly discover that they can’t high-five because Ooma has no hands. However, since Gary does, Ooma encourages him to use them and start dialing. As he starts pressing, Ooma begins to “ooh” and “aah” flirtatiously, prompting Gary to ask “Am I doing it right?” As Ooma urges him on, the spot resolves with a shot of the device and the messaging “Crystal clear nationwide calling. For free,” followed by the tagline: “OOMA. The smart phone. For your home.”

The campaign also includes the :30s “Afraid” and “Bored.”
