VOLTRON, CARE BEARS AND THE TEENAGE MUTANT NINJA TURTLES FAWN OVER HONDA FOR THE HOLIDAYS

RPA brings back even more classic toys

Editor’s Pick

Children of the ‘80s, rejoice! Voltron, Defender of the Universe, is taking a little break from splitting Robeasts like firewood to fly around the local Honda dealership. A plug-in hybrid is just the thing a hero needs for the holidays.

The five-part monster slayer is just one of the blasts from the past making an appearance in the carmaker’s “Happy Honda Days 2.0” campaign, a revisiting of the original from 2014. Joining the multi-colored lions are the Care Bears, who fawn over a CR-V (well, Cheer Bear does. Grump Bear is crabby, of course). The Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles pop out of the sewers for a visit, too, complete with spot-on voice acting for all four, and Master Splinter, too. That’s because RPA, which created the spots, landed the original “Turtles” voice cast from the 1987 TV series.

Older kids needn’t feel left out. The campaign also features Colonel Steve Austin, the Six Million Dollar Man. Remember when that was a lot of money? Can’t even buy a single new hip for that these days.

The spots are running on TV and radio and in digital, print, display, point-of-sale and social placements. Spots will run during NHL and NFL games, including on Thanksgiving on FOX and CBS.
