Degree® introduced 2022 Not Done Yet Marathon Team, giving them a second chance to run the 26.2 miles at the 2022 San Francisco Marathon in an inspiring series of ads out of BBDO, edited by BANDIT.
The Degree® Not Done Yet Marathon Team comprises three inspiring everyday athletes from varying backgrounds who experienced challenges when previously running marathons, causing them to not complete their races: Michael Zampella, who was diagnosed with a rare degenerative eye disease called Retinitis Pigmentosa; Ashley Zirkle, who donated her own kidney and was forced to withdraw from her last marathon; and Sagirah Ahmed Norris, who started running as a coping method after losing her father, and was soon after diagnosed with Multiple Sclerosis.
Jim Rubino introduced the world to Ashley and Sagirah with edits joining the athlete’s former trials with the persistence and determination required to succeed, set to a heartbeat track of hope. Chris Kursel cut the poignant stories of all three runners succeeding in their marathons in “Crossing the Finish Line”–transposing their previous attempts with precious wins in the early light of San Francisco–as well as Michael’s story in “Meet Michael”.

For many athletes, ‘did not finish’ can be the most devastating outcome. With the Not Done Yet Marathon, Degree sponsored three runners who were unable to complete their previous marathons. Over the last few months, we have helped them with personalized coaching, new running equipment, and race-day accommodations. Degree gave them a second chance at finishing a marathon.
All three members of the Degree Not Done Yet Marathon Team completed the race at the San Francisco Marathon. After months of hard work and determination, each runner was able to overcome their previous ‘did not finish’ and prove to the world that they are #NotDoneYet.
