Los Angeles-based FreeForm director Jesse Dylan inspires young viewers to participate in the upcoming November elections with a star-studded series of eight :30 PSAs for Rock The Vote’s “Vote Fearlessly” campaign.
Watch the PSAs here: http://www.rockthevote.com/ (or download individual spots using links below.)
Featuring candid dialogues about voter participation with celebrities such as Joaquin Phoenix, Kate Walsh, Jesse Tyler Ferguson, David Banner, Casey Affleck, Dane Cook and Wayne Brady, the campaign encourages youths to shape their own futures and make their voices heard through the power of their ballots.
The PSAs, which will air nationally, online and in select local markets, are marked by a casual-but-intimate look depicting talent, alone and in pairs, interviewed against neutral backgrounds and utilizing motion graphics, split screens and visual effects to underscore key messaging points.
The first PSA to launch, “David/Casey/Joaquin,” features a newly-beardless Joaquin Phoenix along with Casey Affleck invoking phrases beginning with “more,” such as “More Justice,” “More Power” and “More Participation.” These static cutaways are interspersed with a conversational message shot in a more fluid, handheld style from rap star David Banner, delivering a message on each talking point “for the kids.” The PSA culminates in Phoenix and Affleck intoning “Less Fear” in split screen, leading into the tag “Vote Fearlessly” superimposed over a wide shot of Affleck. We close on the super, “Rock The Vote, Nov. 2.” Banner closes by saying, “It only takes five minutes.”
Another PSA, “Texting,” features celebrities on their smartphones as superimposed graphics simulating text messaging erase words such as “Apathy,” “Prejudice” and “Hate,” while a third features comedian Dane Cook amusingly recalling his early voting experiences.
Each PSA ends in a tail slate repeating the tagline “Vote Fearlessly” with the call to action, “Rock The Vote, Nov. 2.” For downloadable links to additional spots, see credits below.
