Alanda, parent company of, FluidButterMr. Bronx and Scout, has launched Butter Music and Sound in Venice, CA. Mirroring their successful Soho, NY studio, Alanda has brought its award-winning music company to the west coast in a fittingly laid-back and stylish Venice Beach location. The studio will be led by Butter’s west coast Executive Producer Marcus Nelson, along with Creative Director Joel Dean and Senior Producer Annick Mayer, who have both relocated from the thriving New York office to complete the team. Nelson will also serve as acting EP for Fluid and Scout west coast projects.

Recent Butter original music projects out of the west coast studio includes the music-driven Samsung “Accolades” spot out of 72andSunny as well as a clever radio campaign for Charmin and their continued work for Dunkin’ Donuts out of Hill Holiday. Upcoming work includes innovative Honda work out of RPA and another bold and exciting Mitsubishi campaign for 180LA. The studio also handles music supervision, licensing, and representation of indie artists such as Son Lux, Raekwon, and Kishi Bashi. The studio has been recognized by the industry through multiple recent awards, including a Cannes Gold Lion, One Show Gold Pencil, and Clio Gold for Ragu’s “Long Day of Childhood,” out of Barton F. Graf 9000.

Notes Alanda CEO Marc Schwartz, “We’ve been exploring the idea of a staffing a west coast studio for some time, and once Marcus got on board, it fell perfectly into place. LA quickly became an extension of our New York studio, with the vibe and energy that we hoped for.”

Butter Managing Director and NY EP Ian Jeffreys comments, “Since the doors opened, the results have been staggering. On top of building a new network of friends and clients on the west coast, we’ve been able to work more closely with our NY and Chicago clients in town for their LA productions.”

Adds Butter Executive Producer Marcus Nelson, “Having officially opened our doors to Venice, CA, we are super excited about collaborating creative with our new relationships in Los Angeles and on the west coast, while continuing to wax musical back in New York. In a highly competitive market filled with epic talent, we are grateful for the chance to spread the sonic love. We’re here to make music… and guacamole.”

Growing up with a tenacious passion for music, Marcus Nelson drew his creative inspirations from the likes of Buck Owens, Mingus, Pavarotti, The Dead Kennedy’s and Johnny Cash. With over ten years of experience in the advertising industry, Nelson’s background spans a wide range of roles from actor, to casting director, to commercial director rep, marrying both his zeal for music and creative background to lead Butter’s west coast team.
