Venice, CA-based production company Durable Goods director Neil Tardio hits it out of the park with the new Bank of America :60 campaign spot “It’s On Sale” out of Hill Holliday Boston that features Red Sox pitches David Price, Steven Wright and Chris Sale treating kids to free ice cream with a side of slightly heady comedic wordplay. Tardio infuses his signature comedic styling to introduce Red Sox newcomer Sale to Boston baseball fans while paying homage to the famous Abbot and Costello comedy skit “Who’s First?”
The spot features the three pitchers at Fenway Park strategizing a way to get fans acquainted with Chris Sale which leads to a handout of free ice cream on Sale’s expense. The old school comedic approach falls flat on the children, who try to determine how to pay for the ice cream and receive a “it’s on Sale” response, initiating a rabbit hole of amusing double entendres that leave them in a state of complete confusion.
The spot is a continuation of Bank of America’s #MLBmemorybank campaign that aims to honor fan memories while helping create new ones.
