With Pusha T, Doechii, and Future showcasing his modern Black dandyism, the creative director made the night his own.
At the Met Gala last night, Louis Vuitton proved that it truly understood the assignment.
Rather than leaning into complete period dressing, creative director Pharrell presented his vision of contemporary Black dandyism, aligning with the theme Superfine: Tailoring Black Style, as well as his era of Louis Vuitton menswear.
He effectively utilized crystal, pearls, metallics, and—of course—the iconic damier print to fashion looks that exuded a sense of significance, like the Black dandies of the past but in a distinctly modern vein. (It didn’t hurt that LVMH stablemate Tiffany & Co. dressed three of the folks in this story—Pharrell, Pusha T, and Doechii—and further reinforced the contemporary feel.)
Pusha T, a longtime friend of P, looked the part dressed up in a lightly pinstripe burgundy two-piece suit (with matching tie). It was bedazzled on the shoulders, evoking a delicate snowfall upon the “Diet Coke” rapper.
Future appeared much more low-key than his fellow LV-clad attendees, though his quarter-zip glen-check co-ord set was surprisingly sparkly. Some simple black accessories—including a pair of leather gloves and a pair of ButterSoft foot sneakers—finished the imitable fit.
Doechii dared to fly closest to the past. A cravat-finished three-piece suit with an audacious interplay of colors, cuts, and proportions (we’re so here for the shorts-and-tailcoat combo), perfectly suited the Floridian rapper. Her look was uniquely rounded off by an LV monogram embossed on her cheek—a grand peacocking move that landed perfectly.
The man himself, Pharrell, counteracted any undisguised historical references weaved into his clan’s attire with an assertively progressive look.
The musician turned designer rocked a white cropped evening jacket handmade entirely from two sizes of pearls—a gemstone that has been inextricably linked with LV since he began his reign in 2023.
It was with such unwavering commitment to authenticity that Pharrell led Louis Vuitton to its Met Gala triumph.
