FilmStill-51

The full 2016 SXSW Film Festival lineup has been announced, and Washington Square Films director William A. Kirkley’s documentary Orange Sunshine is among the 139 A-list features to be shown. The 94-minute documentary is the never-before-told story of the Brotherhood of Eternal Love, a spiritual group of Southern California hippies and surfers in the 1960s and 1970s who inadvertently invented the modern illegal drug trade. At the time, the social activist group was the largest supplier of LSD and Hash in the world, expanding into a drug-smuggling empire over the years. At the core of the Brotherhood is a husband and wife team who sought to change the world through LSD and other psychedelic drugs.

Director Kirkley grew up in Southern California. A high school dropout, Kirkley concentrated on his passion for filmmaking with skateboarding videos, music videos, documentaries and more. Represented by Washington Square Films, he has produced commercial work for clients such as Amazon, Chevrolet, Reebok, Heineken, PetCo, SOS Children’s Villages and more.

This year’s nine-day SXSW Film Festival will showcase 139 feature films, including 89 world premieres, 13 North American premieres and 8 US premieres. Films were selected from a competitive 2,450 submissions of comedies, thrillers, documentaries and international films.
