Los Angeles-based Boxer Films has signed writing and directing team The Real McCoys for commercial representation.  The duo, made up of longtime friends Sean Mullens and Nelson Cabrera, have been directing award-winning commercials, music videos and documentaries for a combined twenty-five years.  The pair, well known for doing a great deal of their shooting in both English and Spanish, will be represented by Boxer in both the U.S. and Hispanic markets for spots, interactive, branded entertainment and television.

Individually and together, the pair have racked up an impressive run of work that has netted Gold, Silver and Bronze Lions Cannes Lions, four Gold Clios, eight ANDY Awards and two Emmy Awards .  Their experience combines years of agency experience along with constantly evolving technical know-how.

Says Boxer EP Beth George, “The Real McCoys combine their respective talents in a very unique way.  In their case, the whole is definitely more than a sum of the parts.”   Notes Cabrera, “We have known John Clark for a long time and are very excited to be joining such a well-positioned company as Boxer.  Their place in both markets as well as their documentary and Television work is a perfect fit for us.”

Mullens started in the industry as an Art Director/Copywriter en route to becoming Creative Director at FCB, San Francisco, on such top worldwide brands as Levi’s, MTV and Nike.  Since exiting FCB to continue building his directing career, he has created documentaries and award-winning commercials for clients including ESPN, Verizon, Atari and McDonald’s.

Along the way, he partnered with longtime friend Cabrera, a celebrated multicultural director in his own right, to form The Real McCoys.  Cabrera rose from the ranks of A.D. and 2nd Unit Director to create his own impressive and diverse body of work that spans live action comedy, automotive, CGI-driven and interactive content. Since embarking on his directorial career, Cabrera has won recognition for international spots commissioned by clients such as Mini Cooper, Geico, Ford, and VW, among many others.

Since banding together, The Real McCoys have focused their combined talents on writing and directing a string of acclaimed commercials, branded entertainment projects, feature films and music videos for a lengthy list of brands, most recently a spot for Volkswagen and a spot for the U.K.-based travel website thetrainline.com.  Their short documentary “BirthRight” has garnered considerable festival buzz, including taking home the Jury Prize for Best Documentary Short at this year’s Austin Film Festival.  Currently, the pair are putting the finishing touches on a one-hour branded documentary, entitled “The World’s Fastest,” about one man’s superhuman quest to break the world land speed record behind the wheel of a turbo-charged Cadillac.
