Brooklyn-based nonprofit Globetops teams up with Northern Lights editor Chris Carson to take viewers behind the scenes in their mission to bring access to technology to global recipients in need of technological empowerment in the new 3:45 video “Laptop Stories: Guinea.” The video takes viewers to Guinea, the country where the nonprofit began, to deliver laptops to the leader of an agricultural group in need of access to paperwork to receive government subsidies, a teacher who needs to log her students’ grades, an artisan who creates technological courses and a single mother who dreams of starting her own Internet café. The video culminates with the four dreamers opening packages containing their very own laptops, dancing and celebrating at the opportunities their new possession will create for them.

Globetops founder Becky Morrison chose to highlight the stories of business owners and entrepreneurs in Guinea to show viewers another side of Africa. “I’m very passionate about depicting images of people in the developing world who are not needy and suffering, but who are passionate and powerful,” says Morrison. “There are people doing big things throughout the world, who simply don’t have the resources that they need.”

Morrison shot the video in conjunction with Director of Photography Jordan Engle. Northern Lights’ Chris Carson edited the short film, and SuperExploder’s Ted Gannon provided the sound mix.

Says Morrison, “Chris Carson is the most talented and humble editor I’ve ever worked with. This video was tricky, because the people in it are speaking French. He had to edit the entire video in a different language.”

Says Carson, “I was so happy to be a part of the Globetops video. Witnessing the pure joy of the recipients really put a smile on my face. It’s amazing to see how something we take for granted, access to a computer, can be so life-changing for people across the world.”

Through partnerships with international aid and philanthropic organizations, Globetops seeks to redistribute these tossed resources in an effort to care for the environment and provide a greater access to technology for all.

Globetops enables people to actualize their dreams. By giving technological tools to the poorest sections of society, their strength and confidence grows.
