BRW USA, Los Angeles director, Erik Van Wyk delivers airline culture for the masses in the latest :60 “Welcome Aboard” for Southwest Airlines out of TBWA\Chiat\Day, Los Angeles. The spot marks the first project of Southwest’s partnering with TBWA\Chiat\Day, and is the first of 10 national and local spots in the brand image campaign. “Welcome Aboard” embodies Southwest’s “stand out from the crowd” mantra through glimpses into the ambition for excellence of a multitude of individuals, ranging from a baby’s first crawl to an executive approaching a packed conference room. The spot launched on March 19th during March Madness NCAA Basketball games.

The spot makes a noticeable departure from many traditional airline company commercials. Moving beyond the approach of depicting friendly faces and comfortable seats, and reminding people that they too can be an individual and trailblazer, the spot reaches viewers on a more relatable level. Fun.’s smash single “Some Nights” carries the commercial through its triumphant moments, and indulges the determinative flare that streaks through the entire spot.
