If you enjoyed part I of the Foodie Tech blog series about apps for discovering great new restaurants, you’ll love part II – sharing and reviewing. Stop annoying your Instagram followers with endless food pics and switch to these social media platforms designed specifically for drooling over food porn!

If there’s one thing our society loves more than eating, it’s sharing our dining experience with all our friends and networks. But there’s no need to stick to just Instagram and risk annoying all your followers. There are actually social media platforms that were designed specifically for sharing food pics!

Foodspotting (iOS, Android and desktop) is a fun app that can not only help you find nearby restaurants, but find out the best dishes to order at each. Anyone can upload a photo of their food to Foodspotting. Users tag the dish with descriptions like “Mexican” and “vegetarian.” You log on and can see restaurants near you in a visual presentation, or search using these tags. Foodgawker (iOS and desktop) is like Foodspotting, but less about ratings and more about drool-worthy photos. It is literally like Pinterest for food porn. But there’s no need to stick to just photos.

Tastemade (iOS and Android) is a startup that recently raised $25 million in Series C funding. Foodies and food bloggers can record brief restaurant video reviews, add background music and more. The end result is a professional-looking clip. Tastemade is also working on producing professional shows in its studio that are then distributed on YouTube and Hulu. Not to be outdone, tried-and-true Yelp! also added a video feature recently, which is meant to be less about reviewing the restaurant and more about showing users the venue’s ambience.
