Los Angeles-based HELLO! announces esteemed live concert/event, multi-camera directors David Barnard, Dick Carruthers and Christian Lamb are joining the prodco’s newly-launched HELLO! LIVE division. The three award-winning helmers, who work individually, will cover the artful documentation of live spectacles—concert films, festivals, award shows—and live TV and web broadcasts across the globe.

Overseeing the new division for HELLO! is EP Sheira Rees-Davies, whose experience includes the Black Eyed Peas “Live from Sydney to Vegas” concert DVD and ‘Beyoncé at the Wynn’ for ABC, also produced by HELLO! Producer Chris Kraft. Other live event highlights produced by Kraft include an Audioslave MTV special and Korn Live in Concert.

Says Rees-Davies, “Following the success of the ‘Beyoncé ABC special and DVD that HELLO! produced last fall, launching this division is a natural progression. We are very excited, as each of these directors have different strengths to bring great production value and quality to HELLO! LIVE projects.”

Director David Barnard

David Barnard is an award-winning live multi-camera filmmaker from London. Over the years, David has worked on hundreds of productions including record-breaking and award winning live concerts/ films for diverse artists such as Bjork, Diana Krall, Craig Armstrong, Radiohead, The Pet Shop Boys, Dido, Nick Cave, Pulp, The Spice Girls, Jamie Cullum, Alice Cooper, Travis, Harry Connick Jr., and The Reading Festival. Noteworthy projects also include Darfur Voices and Pavarotti, featuring Sting and Placido Domingo.

In recent years, David signed on as principal director for the popular “From The Basement” podcast-turned-TV series, produced by Nigel Godrich. For the series, he’s captured iconic live performances from Radiohead, Iggy & The Stooges, The Kills, Fleet Foxes, The Raconteurs, Beck, Sonic Youth, PJ Harvey, Damien Rice, and many more for television broadcast, on UK’s Sky Arts and IFC in the US. He is currently prepping the 3rd series of the show. In addition, David’s wildly successful concert film for Diana Krall “Live In Rio” was released last summer into nearly every territory in the world, and his highly acclaimed film for Radiohead “In Rainbows Live” was broadcast worldwide and via internet download.

Most recently, David shot the historic Pavarotti Tribute Concert and Documentary in Petra, Jordan, and directed the first-ever 3D high-def multi-camera live webcast for Keane.

A renowned director specializing in live events, Dick Carruthers has directed and produced countless award-winning concert films, documentaries, live television concerts and events, working with a range of musical artists including The Rolling Stones, Beyoncé, Oasis, The Killers, Michel Buble, The White Stripes, The Who, Stereophonics, Alicia Keys, Rage Against the Machine, Elton John, and Led Zeppelin; Dick’s co-direction with Jimmy Page on Led Zeppelin’s DVD resulted in one of the world’s best-selling and most revered music DVDs of all time.

Dick has been widely acknowledged and awarded for his achievements, with a few highlights being Best Music DVD, Led Zeppelin (BAFTA, CADS, New York Awards); Best Music DVD, The Who ‘Live At Royal Albert Hall’ (VSDA Technical Awards); Best Music Documentary with Heavy Metal “Louder Than Life” (HEW Awards); the prestigious Editor’s Award of Total Production presented by Jimmy Page, and is a 3-time BAFTA nominee.

His latest project The Killers: Live From Royal Albert Hall, was released in December 2009 and has sold over 400,000 copies, and spent 2 weeks at #1 in the US.

Multi-camera event filmmaker Christian Lamb

Before moving into the multi-camera event filmmaking, Christian Lamb worked as a photographer, cinematographer, gaffer, camera operator, Warner Brothers studio editor. In 1996, he joined acclaimed FX company Digital Domain, where he worked under the tutelage of Rob Legato (Titanic, Avatar). Christian designed and co-created the video visuals for Madonna’s Confessions and Sticky and Sweet worldwide tours, the latter being the highest grossing tour for a female artist ever. In 2006, Christian founded Frank the Plumber, a video content production company where he produced and designed the tour visuals for dozens of worldwide concert productions, as well as commercials for Ford, Coca Cola and more. I

n 2008, Christian teamed up with international artist Tori Amos to direct 16 video “visualettes” for her “Abnormally Attracted to Sin” album. Recently Christian has been directing live concerts, covering the worldwide tours Madonna, Mariah Carey, Shakira, John Legend and Incubus to name a few. Over the last decade, Christian has also directed numerous multi-cam TV broadcasts, webcasts and DVDs for artists such as Rhianna, Green Day, Counting Crows, Brooks and Dunn, Rage Against the Machine, Alicia Keys and Lenny Kravitz among others.

Christian is currently on tour with Rhianna, shooting a documentary about her upcoming “Rated R” world tour.
