New York-based post boutique Northern Lights further extends their creative offerings with the addition of sister company, audio house SuperExploder.  The new company offers comprehensive sound services for commercials, promos, radio, feature films, web content and experiential projects, and will be led by award winning mixer/sound designers Ted Gannon and Jody Nazzaro, along with Executive Producer Beth Cummins and Audio Assistant Tony Sprayberry. The company encompasses all things audio: mixing, sound design, creative services, and casting.  SuperExploder will also represent Ted Gannon, David Brent and Michael Carey for original music composition.

The inspiration to launch a stand-alone audio house comes in response to the growing needs of clients. “We’re excited about the expansion of our mixing, composition and sound design capabilities,” says EP Beth Cummins.  Cummins, who also owns a small jazz label, makes the move to SuperExploder after nearly 15 years as a business manager at Northern Lights.

Ted Gannon began his career engineering a wide variety of music, from artists such as Lenny Kravitz, Prince Paul, and Wu Tang Clan, to well-known television shows such as Beavis and Butthead.  He has worked as a Mixer/Sound Designer/Composer at many studios in Manhattan, including Subvoyant and Bionic.  His broadcast clients include History (Ax Men and Ice Road Truckers), USA, Vh1 and Food Network, while his agency experience includes top national brands such as Nike, Puma, Axe, and Trix. “Our team thrives on working with new concepts and fresh ideas and we are extremely enthusiastic about the work that we do,” says Gannon. “We are always excited about the challenge that a new day and a new project presents to us.”

Jody Nazzaro comes to SuperExploder from Bionic, with a well established record working as a Senior Sound Designer/Mixer for a range of broadcast and commercial clients including Lancôme, Puffs, Amstel, Publicis, DDB, Saatchi & Saatchi, USA, Spike TV, MTV and Comedy Central.  Notes Nazzaro, “I’m really excited to help create an awesome new sound boutique tailored to just doing audio and doing it properly.  I’m looking forward to working with past clients, clients of our sister companies, Northern Lights, Bodega and Mr. Wonderful, and opening our doors to outside projects of any nature.”

SuperExpolder is being built in a new space, ultimately encompassing five mix rooms, including a John Storyk designed 5.1 mix studio as well as a 5.1 mix studio designed specifically for Nazzaro by Brian Dorfman of Orchard Design Group.

The name “SuperExploder” alludes to the concepts of Italian Futurist painter and composer Luigi Russolo who theorized that mainstream instruments such as violins and pianos would eventually become obsolete and replaced by “sound generating devices” such as the “exploder” and the “gurgler.” SuperExploder will explore similarly inventive and forward-thinking ways to execute their clients’ sound needs from the concept stage through finishing.

SuperExpolder’s current work can be heard on broadcast projects for USA, Spike, Nickelodeon, Comedy, Vh1, Cloo, Chiller, TBS and others.  Recent commercial work includes mixing spots for various General Mills brands through Saatchi & Saatchi, NY, Lancôme for Publicis, NY, and original music compositions for P&G which will be prominently featured in the 2012 Olympics. As well as mixing and music composition for Adam Reid’s feature “Hello Lonesome,” which was recently nominated for a 2011 Independent Spirit Award.
