NY-based Sonic Union mixer Steve Rosen, with Bikini Edit Editor Avi Oron and Smuggler director Tom Hooper forge new friendships by spreading Yankee love in the new :60, “New Friends” for Mastercard out of McCann Erickson, NY.  The spot features a quirky young man doling out free Yankee tickets to random strangers throughout New York City.

“New Friends” opens with a young man by his stoop with a thick envelope of Yankees tickets.  He begins his random distribution by handing his mailman a ticket.  As the man returns his good deed with a quizzical expression, the young man quickly replies, “You’re a Yankee Fan,” before taking off to deplete the remainder of his stash.  He spies two teenage girls and hands them tickets as he awkwardly stumbles over his words, saying, “It’s for the game—it’s not a date—it’s just—it’s not—you’re so hot… See ya there.”  He moves on to hand out free tickets to many unsuspecting strangers, including a little boy batting for his little league “Yankees” team, a security guard sipping coffee from his Yankees mug, an old man dozing off while fishing in his Yankees cap, a nicely dressed woman strolling along with her finely groomed dog dressed in a mini Yankees hat, a ballerina taking a break from rehearsal while chatting on her Yankees-covered cell phone, and a young hipster with a Yankees tattoo.  As the young man skips down to his seat at Yankee Stadium, we see the super, “Seats in a new section: only with a Mastercard,” accompanied by the voiceover, “Tickets to the new Batter’s Eye Seats: only with a Mastercard.”  We see the man enjoying a standing ovation from the fans surrounding him, enjoying their gifted seats, as we hear the voiceover, “Inviting some new friends to the game: priceless.”  We see the Mastercard logo as the voiceover concludes, “One card brings you a collection of amazing New York experiences.  That’s Mastercard.  That’s priceless.”

ABOUT SONIC UNION

Sonic Union, New York was a concept born in 2008 between lauded mixers Michael Marinelli and Steve Rosen, and Managing Director Adam Barone.  The team set out to create the finest audio shop in New York, while also maintaining a family-like feel in a location that reflected—and supported—client comfort, natural light and the artists’ unwavering love of the craft.  Three years later, Sonic Union’s work has won top awards, their employees and clients play together after work, and its architecturally significant space overlooking the trees of Union Square has become a home-away-from-home for everyone who mixes there.

Sonic Union continues to evolve, pulling in on-staff, veteran voiceover casting director, Maria Pappalardo, and expanding its motion graphics and VFX capabilities. Come in and check out the state of our Union…
