Growing up in what Susan describes as the “Mad Men” era and the youngest of three in an Italian family in Long Island, NY was just as one would envision. Susan was an eternal optimist trying to find her way and willing to work hard to get it. Her motto? Just keep saying yes! This can do philosophy lead straight to her dream job in advertising, and she never looked back.

Full Biography

A natural curator of creative talent and an astute entrepreneur, Susan Willis got her start in the advertising industry as a receptionist for Grey Advertising. Smitten with the industry, she quickly climbed the ranks, spending six years with the agency and later moving on to BBDO, contributing to award-winning campaigns for such notable brands as Pepsi, Fed Ex, Pizza Hut, Visa and Snickers.

In 2005, Willis co-founded respected NY-based editorial shop Cutting Room with husband, film editor Chuck Willis. She then launched Light of Day in 2011, with partners Charles Nordeen, Colin Stackpole and Josh Williams. The VFX, digital production and graphic design shop has rapidly expanded, regularly collaborating with top agencies for work on Comcast, Miller Light, NY Lottery and Bank of America.

Genuinely passionate about furthering humanitarian support services, both of Willis’ companies maintain a commitment to giving back. As a board member of Keep A Child Alive, Willis strives to ensure that she is regularly leveraging her film talent and vast resources for raising awareness for the cause. She rallied her teams, serving as executive producer on the documentary projects “Keep A Child Alive with Alicia Keys” and “Alicia Keys in Africa.” Willis is also a member of The Mayor’s Coalition Against Illegal Guns and is currently in production on a documentary project chronicling the dedication, struggle and fearlessness of women in the gun control movement.
