Several of San Francisco’s more positive tech developments have disappeared amongst the explosion of negative Tweets, news articles and blog posts surrounding the city’s tech scene in recent weeks.

Here’s an update on the rising dispute, along with a few noteworthy positive Tweets we found trending in technology this week:

“Tech is ruining SF’s culture”:

SF Business Times recently wrote an article about the SF grassroots campaign, which claims that the tech industry is diminishing the city’s authentic culture.

This week, a series of “wanted” posters appeared in several neighborhoods, depicting a picture of the SF skyline with the question: “Have you seen my soul?”

SF Business Times also discussed the invite-only meeting put on by Salesforce yesterday that included attendees such as the Mayor, tech investor Ron Conway and other leading technologists. The luncheon intended to address the future of the tech industry in San Francisco and how to eradicate the rising resentment between the big tech companies and the rest of the city.

On a more positive note…

SF’s bringing WiFi to the streets:

What a great idea! According to an article on SF Gate yesterday, the city is coming out with free WiFi on one of the busiest spans of Market Street (a 3-mile radius from Castro Street to the Embarcadero).

With this new service, commuters will be able to “access information, find out when their next bus is coming, or peruse local job listings, all for free,” said SF Mayor Ed Lee. “This is a significant first step in my vision of connectivity for our city,” he added.

Tech is becoming a promising industry for women:

Social media/internet geek Michelle Glauser put together 21 reasons by Kaplan University and BlogHer on why the tech industry is great for women too. A few include:

– It’s creative! Innovations in tech are literally boundless, and almost any job market has a tech angle in some way

– Working in tech helps squash the “males-are-better-for-tech-jobs” stereotype

– There is a great need for women in tech to cater to their fellow women’s needs in the industry

– Work environment is generally casual and usually comes with a lot of SWAG (including super trendy t-shirts, water bottles, backpacks, etc.)

– The tech industry also comes with a lot of great benefits – catered lunches, gym memberships, company outings, and shuffleboard tables in the office? Yes please!

Mobile advertising is the future:

AdAge reporter Alex Kantrowitz wrote yesterday a new report from eMarketer that revealed how mobile ad spending in 2013 is expected to double to $9.6 billion.

The report also said nearly all of the digital advertising growth this year will be a result of mobile efforts, concluding that companies will benefit most from effectively selling advertising across devices.
